A Memorable Victory for YSR Congress
YSR Congress Party faced back-to-back setbacks in the form of poll debacles at Nandyal and Kakinada. The Main Opposition recovered much faster than anyone had anticipated from the double defeats. It managed to win the election of Jaggayyapeta Municipal Chairman amidst high drama.
The Election was supposed to happen on Friday but the hungama created by Ruling Party citing the kidnap of its Counsellors delayed it by a day. Finally, Situation turned completely in favour of YCP by Saturday. Inturi Rajagopal was elected as Jaggayyapeta Municipal Chairman unanimously.
Considering the developments on Friday, A fencing was arranged in between the seats allotted for TDP and YCP Members in the meeting hall. 16 Counsellors of YSRC reached the spot by 10 AM. By 11 AM, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani, Local MLA Sriram Rajagopal and TDP Counsellors came there. TDP Leaders demanded postponement of election citing kidnap of its counsellors. However, Officials had gone ahead with the election. TDP Members boycotted the election in protest against it.
While 10th Ward Counsellor Muhammad Akbar proposed the name of Inturi Rajagopal as Municipal Chairman, 3rd Ward Counsellor Anantha Lakshmi strengthened the proposal. Later, The newly elected Chairman took part in the oath-taking ceremony to complete the whole election process.
